Fabric Options

We offer five fabric choices for your AAA wall tent. All of these fabrics are a superior grade of double-fill 100% cotton canvas. We invite you to compare the quality of our canvas with that used in other wall tents sold today. Following is a detailed discussion of the fabrics that we offer.

14.7 oz (#10) Untreated Duck

Our heaviest canvas, the #10 Duck is the fabric is the preferred choice of most of our customers. This heavy duty double-fill 100% cotton fabric is a higher quality canvas than the heavy weight canvas offered by most other wall tent makers (some advertise material of a comparable weight to ours, but be aware that these are usually made of cheaper single fill yarns). What does double-fill canvas mean to you? It means that the fabric has a more uniform, tighter weave with greater water resistance, along with incredible tear strength. Our 14.7 oz (#10) Duck provides the most rugged, longest lasting wall tents. Because of the exceptional weave and weight of this material, water penetration is not typically a problem. However, since it is untreated, this canvas can absorb a fair amount of water. Special attention must be paid to ensure that the tent is completely dry prior to storage to avoid mildew.

12.5 oz Sunforger® Boat Duck

The preferred choice for heavy use in wet or humid climates, our 12.5 oz Boat Duck is a marine-grade, double-fill 100% cotton fabric treated with Sunforger® silicone-based dry finish for maximum water and mildew resistance. (This does not mean you can put it away wet! As with all canvas wall tents, precautions must be taken to make sure the tent is completely dry prior to long-term storage to prevent mold and mildew.) Our boat duck is a unique canvas material that is more durable than the lighter 10.1 oz Sunforger Army Duck offered by us and other makers, while being more mildew resistant than our heavy 14.7 oz #10 Duck.

12.5 oz FR (Fire-Retardant) Sunforger® Boat Duck (NEW!)

We now offer the popular 12.5 oz Boat Duck with the addition of a fire-retardant treatment that meets the California Fire Marshall's CPAI-84 specification. This is a premium fabric for customers in the seven states (CA, LA, MA, MI, MN, NY and NJ) that have regulations requiring tents to be made of fabrics that meet the CPAI-84 standard. 10.1 oz Sunforger® Army Duck

Identical to the 12.5 oz Boat Duck except for its lighter weight (10.1 oz per square yard), this double-fill 100% cotton material is ideal for those needing a lighter-weight wall tent with excellent weather resistance. A tent built of this fabric will weigh-in at 10 to 20 pounds lighter than our 14.7 oz #10 Duck. While the Army Duck is a fine choice when weight is an issue, most of our customers select either the 12.5 oz Boat Duck or 14.7 oz #10 Duck for the greater strength and durability those fabrics offer.

Door and window options

Our screen windows and doors are constructed of strong 20x20 woven fiberglass mesh that is unaffected by smoke, fumes or salt air. This material is non-combustible and will not shrink, stretch or corrode. Screen window and door closures are secured by beefy #10 YKK self-healing coil zippers with durable nickel-plated sliders.

Standard on all AAA canvas wall tents is our buckle-flap "Uintah" storm door. This door has an additional buckle-closure flap that overlaps the zippered door closure for extra weather resistance. a single zippered door. Behind the zippered door is a standard mesh screen door to keep out pests while allowing ventilation in warm weather.

All AAA wall tents also come standard with a rear triangle screen window in the back wall. Triangular windows have the advantage of allowing a greater range of ventilation control. For 8x10, 10x12 and 12x14, the stock window measures 36" high by 45" wide. On the larger 14x16 and 16x20 tents, the window is 48" x 48".

We offer rectangular "picture windows" (not shown) as an option. You can also order additional windows in the sidewalls of the tent. Some customers prefer a second door in the back wall, especially on the larger tents. All of these options are selectable when you configure your tent in our online store.

Sidewall Ventilation

Optional sidewall windows (not shown) will be located toward the rear of the tent for best air flow when using a portable stove, unless you request otherwise.

Roll-up sidewall

Another option providing sidewall ventilation and access is our zippered roll-up wall (shown at right). This option is available with or without fiberglass-mesh screened sidewalls. (Only the outer canvas flap is zippered to roll up in screened sidewall option — the screen netting is sewn to the corners and does not roll up.)

Floor Options

sod cloth
Vinyl-laminate sod cloth,
standard on all tents

Your AAA custom wall tent comes standard with a 10-inch-wide "sod cloth." This flap is sewn to the bottom hem of the tent and may be positioned either inside or outside as desired to form a draft seal around the perimeter of the tent.

We also offer snap in vinyl laminate floors, with or without a cutout for a portable stove. The stove cutout option comes with a snap-in flap to cover the ground when a stove is not in use. Prices for these options are given in the following table.

The 8 oz per-square-yard vinyl laminated polyester used in our snap-in floors and sod cloths is a premium waterproof synthetic material treated for mildew, UV, fire and bacterial resistance. As with all tent fabrics, caution should be exercised when using a heat or flame source such as a woodburning stove near the floor.

Stovepipe insert

A stovepipe insert is standard equipment on all AAA wall tents. When you place your order, select one of the available openings: 4.5-, 5.0- or 6.0-inch (diameter). If no other size is specified, the default opening is 5-inch diameter. Our stovepipe inserts are made of heat- and flame-resistant synthetic materials (no asbestos). A canvas flap covers the hole when not in use, and the flap can be rolled up and tied out of the way when the insert is in use.

front Awning

For extra protection over the front entry, an 8-foot-long front awning can be sewn on. This awning forms an A-frame extension of the roofline and comes complete with a heavy duty steel support pole, plus guy ropes and steel stakes.

Pricing for awnings vary by tent size and material as given below.

Eaves

You can also extend the roofline of your tent with our extended eave option. This option creates a 12" wide eave extending beyond the plane of the sidewall. Choosing this option along with our optional sidewall picture-frame windows will allow some cross-ventilation during rain storms.

Eaves are made of the same material as the base tent. This option adds 10% to the cost of the base tent price.

Roof Fly

For maximum rain and snow protection, order our vinyl-laminated roof fly. This fly is constructed of the same tough vinyl-laminated polyester as our optional floors. Snow just slides right off, making the fly a great option for late-fall and winter camps in northern climates. The roof fly is attached to the ridge of the tent and comes with a second stovepipe insert, guy ropes and stakes.

Frames, poles and fittings

We sell our tents and frames separately, to enable you to obtain the best frame for your needs. Nearly all customers are now selecting our steel cabin-style frame over traditional ridge-and-wall-pole setups (if you still prefer a traditional-style frame, call customer service for pricing and availability). This strong frame is made of 1" steel pipe and fittings. Some customers elect to purchase only the fittings and cut their own pipe to fit. We have specifications available if you prefer to assemble your own frame tubes. Our tents can be ordered with a cabin-style frame, cabin-style frame fittings (cut your own poles), traditional frame or no frame at all.

Cabin-style frame

The cabin-style frame is an internal self-standing frameset composed of 1-inch steel pipe plus 3-way and 4-way fittings to join the pipe sections. The setup can be handled by one person. Guy out the sidewalls for extra strength and wind stability. (Guy ropes and stakes are included with the base tent.)

Cabin frame with winter pole kit

Our cabin frame with winter pole kit adds heavy duty interior uprights to provide extra support to the center ridge for resisting snow loads.

Cabin frame fittings only

This option is for the do-it-your-self-er. We'll provide the necessary 3-way and 4-way steel fittings, plus instructions specifying how to cut your own pipe sections to complete the frame.
