We invite comparison!
Researching a wall tent purchase can give you a headache, with all the jargon tossed around about fabric weight, threads per inch, single-fill, double-fill, cotton canvas or synthetic blends, lap felled seams, grommets or D-rings, yada yada yada.
Here at Kirkham's Outdoor Products, with over 60 years of experience building canvas tents, we believe that we've sorted out what really make a difference to the performance and longevity of a wall tent. So we've compiled a list of the key features of AAA Deluxe Wall Tents, to make it easier for you to compare them with tents from other makers:
100% cotton canvas. AAA genuine canvas wall tents are made using only the highest quality, most uniform canvas available. Our canvas is offered in three weights, all double-fill. Quality double-fill cotton canvas is stronger, more water resistant and a lot more durable than less expensive single-fill cotton or synthetic blends.
For our treated canvas, we use superior Sunforger® dry finishes. Sunforger is a marine grade, silicone-based treatment that is highly water and mildew resistant while offering greater breathability and long-term durability than waxed canvas or coated synthetics.
All corners and rub points get double layer reinforcements.
AAA wall tents are specified as "finished size," not "cut size." For comparison, note that "cut size" tents can end up being as much as 10% smaller after sewing and shrinkage.
Our eave guy-outs are reinforced with sewn-in steel rings. This feature, practically unique to AAA tents, provides the strongest possible attachment for highly stressed guy ropes, far stronger than either D-rings or grommets used by other manufacturers.
Field-repairable rope stake loops. If one ever breaks, you can service it yourself with a short length of rope. Why not use a sewn-in ring like our eave guy-outs? Our replaceable stake loops require a bigger hole to pass the doubled rope through than what we can do with a sewn-in ring. So we use the next best thing, a "star" grommet, which has greater strength and retention than ordinary grommets used by others.
Fixed, welded frame angles for optional cabin frames. Some companies provide adjustable angles; our welded angles are stronger and more rigid.
All ridge angles include a socket for our optional "winter pole kit" — a set of heavy-duty steel uprights that add extra support to the ridge for snow loads.
Sod cloths and optional floors are made of reinforced vinyl-laminate. (This is one place where you don't want canvas, due to long-term contact with ground moisture.)
Overlapping buckle-flap "Uintah" storm doors with zippered screens for ventilation are standard on all tents.
Fiberglass mesh for window and door ventilation. Though we use polyester No-see-um mesh in our Springbar family tents, our fiberglass mesh provides greater fire retardancy and durability for the conditions wall tents are typically used in.
Triangular screen windows are standard on all deluxe wall tents, as are zippered screen doors, stove jacks, and sod cloths. Some builders advertise a low initial price and then tack on extra for the basic features that most customers need.
All AAA wall tents come complete with guy ropes and a full set of 12" steel stakes (including stakes for the guy ropes) and storage bags for transport.
We pay attention to even the small details, like heavy duty rubber end caps for our cabin frame uprights.
