A 60-year tradition of great outdoor products
Kirkham's Outdoor Products traces its history back to 1944 when Arthur Jack Kirkham purchased the AAA Tent and Awning company in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.
In the immediate post-war era, raw materials were hard to come by. Mr. Kirkham searched wide and far to obtain high-quality textiles for the custom awnings, tarps, horse blankets and tents that AAA Tent and Awning manufactured. With time, Jack's customers came to include a clientele of outfitters and camping enthusiasts. Sleeping bags, camp stoves, lanterns and backpacks became regular stock items at his retail store. His business goals of offering his customers the highest quality products accompanied by exceptional service resulted in a prosperous business. He eventually changed the name to "Kirkham's Outdoor Products."
Jack developed the idea for the Springbar® tent frame in the early 1960's. Responding to requests and advice from his customers, he designed a durable, reliable tent that was easy to set up in the field. This revolutionary design is the basis for today's Springbar tents, which have evolved and been tested in a wide range of weather conditions for over forty years. The simplicity of the design has made Springbar one of the most respected names in the tent manufacturing industry.
In 1978, Kirkham's moved to its present location in South Salt Lake City and greatly enlarged its retail capacity. Jack Sr. passed the business to his son, Jack Kirkham, Jr. In 2002, the business underwent another expansion, moving the tent factory offsite to larger facility in Salt Lake. This enabled the retail store to expand once again. Kirkham's Outdoor Products has grown to become one of the premier outdoor specialty shops in the western United States. During the Outdoor Retailers' Convention that attracts some 30,000 retailers and outdoor equipment manufacturers to Salt Lake City twice each year, Kirkham's has become a must-see destination store.
We pride ourselves on not only manufacturing the best quality, best-functioning canvas tents, but also in maintaining a huge selection of outdoor and casual footwear, technical clothing, sportswear, travel gear, and backcountry ski equipment. This also includes its core categories of sleeping bags, stoves, packs, camping equipment and, of course, tents. We strive to provide the best selection of merchandise available for a long camping trip, a travel adventure, or just a short hike in the woods. In keeping with our roots, we have a complete factory service department, selling different weights of canvas duck, Cordura® nylon, and other specialty fabrics. We also sell zippers, buckles, rope, cord, snaps grommets and other do-it-yourself project or repair items.
With this wide variety of products, an extremely knowledgeable staff, and the unique perspective of being both a retailer and product manufacturer, Kirkham's Outdoor Products continues to provide its customers with the finest outdoor specialty goods available.
